Q&A with Mike, Project Administrator at Alaster Anderson

Mike has worked in various finance roles for 15 years, in a wide range of industries from media to public finance. He also ran a popular comedy club for five years, where he managed multiple events for an appreciative audience. He is proud of his community in Pembrokeshire and takes pride in his work with the Round Table, raising funds and supporting local charities and good causes.

What is your role at Alaster Anderson?

I’ve joined the business as a Project Administrator in our Fishguard office, where I am putting my financial experience to excellent use, as well as my people skills and project management expertise. My experience in widely different industries gives me a unique perspective on financial matters, and having put on so many events at the comedy club I’m well versed in the fast-changing nature of project management. With the team at Alaster Anderson working on so many exciting projects, each as varied as the next, every day is fascinating.

Is there a garden that has inspired you?

Having grown up in the coastal countryside of Pembrokeshire, nature has been a major part of my life and I’ve been spoilt by the amazing coastal walks on my doorstep. I can be found spending my spare time either working on my latest project in my garden or visiting the numerous country parks and gardens in the area with my children.

What is your favourite plant and why?

My favourite plants are ferns as they remind me of the wooded path to my childhood home. I am also learning about fruit trees and have some Apple Cider trees that are native to my area.

What is your favourite project?

It's too soon to tell as I’ve not been here long enough to judge … but I can reveal that we have some extremely interesting projects already underway and coming up. Keep reading our Planting Notes to find out more!

What is the most interesting thing you’ve learned at Alaster Anderson?

I have been astonished at the incredible variety of flowers and plants, shrubs, hedging and trees that the team work with, all individually chosen to serve a purpose in each design, and the lengths they go to source them from the best suppliers here in the UK and across Europe

What do you love about your job?

I am very excited to have joined the team here at Alaster Anderson, with everyone working so well together to ensure every project is always completed to the highest standard. From design to implementation, the experience and imagination of Alaster, Flo and Imogen are apparent in every detail.
