HEAD GARDENER EXPERTISE BROUGHT TO YOUR GARDEN

At Alaster Anderson we pride ourselves on the skill and expertise we have to offer our clients. Having been involved in the design and installation of some of London’s most exclusive residential gardens, we quickly became aware that expert involvement was needed long after a garden had been installed or updated.

Gardens at all stages of their maturity need expert attention to reach their potential. In particular, very few newly installed gardens are planted to maturity so need specialist care for them to fulfil the design’s ambition.

The skills and expertise of a Head Gardener are what is needed but in most cases, that high level of resource is not required full time.

With our Head Gardener Service, you have the best of both worlds – the expertise and guidance of a Head Gardener without committing to the expense of a full time employee.

We will mentor, manage and oversee the client’s existing gardener/s to deliver outstanding results, so you can move onto the next project secure in the knowledge that the garden design will not fail post completion. Your vision will be maintained and your reputation will be protected long after installation.

I receive really clear direction weekly as well as month-by-month, and I feel really motivated. I can ask questions whenever I want and I’m learning all the time. I feel a valued part of a team. Alaster Anderson have a very honest problem-solving attitude. There is nothing I would improve.

An innovative approach

We are a small team with an enormous passion for what we do, and we want to instill that passion, knowledge and love of design, and see the gardens we are involved in flourish and bring joy to our clients.

Combined with seasonal visits, our Head Gardener Service allows us to remotely manage gardens through phone calls, emails and direct messaging with you and your gardener. Alongside a full year’s maintenance schedule and reporting system, we have successfully created a programme which fully trains, supports, guides and informs on all your garden needs.

Our 5-point programme

  1. Assessment

Alaster Anderson will visit and assess the garden and spend time discussing your requirements and assessing the skills of your existing gardening team. He will photograph the garden and prepare a report and proposed maintenance plan for the year.

  2. Guidance

Through our advice and consultancy service, we will endeavour to equip your gardener with a bespoke set of skills and the knowledge necessary to maintain your garden. You and your gardener will be joining an exclusive club, being mentored by Horticulturalists with a combined 55 years of experience as well as discounted rates on practical training packages.

  3. Visits

Variable visits from one of our trained Horticulturalists will be scheduled. Depending on the complexity and needs of the garden, these could be between 3-5 visits over the course of the year. They will meet with your gardener and go through a check list of seasonal activities, discuss pruning techniques if required as well as completing an auger test to assess moisture levels, pest and soil checks and complete a plant health check.

  4. Reporting

As well as the initial assessment and maintenance plan, a report will be sent to you after each visit updating you on our findings and setting out our recommendations for the season. As we are Safe Contractor approved, a health and safety plan will also be written and sent to you.

  5. Keeping in Touch

Your dedicated Project Manager and Horticulturalist can be contacted on demand directly by email or telephone whenever the need arises. You will also have access to the Head Gardener Service online portal and direct messaging to discuss any specific garden queries, advice on seasonal gardening activities and cover off any outstanding issues.
